15-21 AOÛT, 2026// BODY WEATHER avec FRANK VAN DE VEN

Workshop held in English

Body Weather is a multi-faceted training and performance practice that examines the shifting relationships between body, environment, and perception. Originating in the early 1980s by Japanese dancer Min Tanaka and further developed by Body Weather Laboratories worldwide, it approaches the body not as a fixed entity, but as a dynamic field of influences - physical, emotional, social, and environmental. Like the weather, the body is understood as constantly changing, porous, and responsive to what surrounds and moves through it.

Frank van de Ven worked with Min Tanaka and the Maijuku Performance Company in Japan (1983-1991), and since then has become one of the central figures in the international Body Weather network. He co-directs Body Weather Amsterdam, a platform dedicated to training, artistic research, and interdisciplinary creation. Frank has led Body/Landscape projects across the world and, since 1995, the annual Bohemiae Rosa Project with Milos Sejn (Academy of Art and Design, Prague), connecting movement, ecology, geology, and embodied perception. The workshop encourages curiosity, sharing experienCe, humour, and attentive presence. It will appeal to dancers, performers, visual artists, theatre practitioners, somatic researchers, and anyone interested in developing a deeper, more sensitive awareness of the body and its creative potential.

Selection of participants is based on a CV and your expressed motivation. No previous (dance) training is necessary but the workshop is physically demanding and requires a reasonable level of fitness.

The workshop will investigate the performing body and further includes MB (mind/body, muscles/bones) physical/dance training •mental training and reflection •walking and silent wandering •various modes of experiencing body, movement and landscape •working with touch and being touched as a means to expand the movement vocabulary •investigating diverse senses of space and time
